Im really proud of myself – Bernardo

first_imgBrighton defender Bernardo says he’s proud of his man-of-the-match performance in the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at the Amex Stadium on Sunday.Bernardo received plaudits for his stellar display at left back on Sunday and was pleased to have tested himself against a talented Chelsea team.“It’s a really nice thing because the fans are wonderful and it’s good to see them recognize my hard work, especially against a team like Chelsea,” Bernardo told the club’s website.“I’m pleased that I have a good level and can prove myself against hard opponents. I’m really proud of myself.“It was difficult [facing Chelsea’s front three], but that’s why I came to this league. I wanted to prove that I’m a player capable of playing against such players and I feel like I did a good job.”After going two goals behind in the first half, Brighton fought hard and pulled a goal back in the second half, but couldn’t find the equalizer.“It was a bit frustrating, as we showed that we could’ve got a result, especially after our performance in the second half,” he said reflecting on the game.“Our goal changed the game, and that’s what the gaffer said to us at half-time. A 2-0 scoreline looks like a big scoreline, but if you score, then the opponent has all the pressure. We got the first goal and tried to get a second, but we didn’t manage it.“The first half overall wasn’t very good and we made too many mistakes. The gaffer then spoke to us and we came out in the second half with a different mentality and understood that we could change the game. At least we left the pitch leaving a good impression of ourselves.”last_img
